Google TV sync issue prevents watchlist items from being removed
Google TV recently slipped up and showed the fact that it’s finally gearing up to roll out the long-awaited individual user profile switch for its Chromecast, and while it’s a feature I’m really looking forward to (looking forward to ), my mind is currently set on the issues the device is currently struggling with instead.
Today I won’t talk about how the Chromecast with Google TV we received in 2020 is now over 2 years old or how ridiculous it is that we still don’t have an upgrade with a space of increased storage or power. No, today I’m going to talk about another software issue that frustrates me immensely.
Over the past few months, I’ve noticed that Google TV has a really unhealthy obsession with trying to get me to watch Chaos Walking, among other shows and movies that I’ve repeatedly deleted from my watchlist. I’ve watched it before and even clicked the “Remove from watchlist” button with the Chromecast remote. In doing so, the film vanished, only to reappear days later or immediately after a reboot as a clingy ex-girlfriend.
What’s even more appalling is that I deleted these contents from my “Watchlist” on Google Search, and even through Google Collections to see if there was just a syncing issue with the TV interface. Unfortunately, this whole ordeal seems to be on Google’s side. Maybe they have a sync issue that needs to be fixed.
Either way, the watchlist is of no use to me if it’s more of a “watched” list. If I have to keep scrolling through the items I’ve deleted in order to find something interesting to sit on each night, I might as well freely browse other menus on the device like the “Shows” and “Movies” tabs. “.
To be fair, this, among other recent issues such as weird visual glitches and discoloration while browsing and reading that has plagued my device recently (a reset fixes this, but shouldn’t be happening to begin with) comes to spoil myself once magical Google TV experience. I don’t have a faulty plug and Google insists I go to my ISP to fix the problem. I have, and they said such a weird thing really has nothing to do with my internet speeds.
Google is notorious for having annoying syncing issues with user data, and this latest issue only compounds the larger problem at hand. Chromebook users who actually care about organizing and using apps and web apps in their launcher haven’t been able to do so reliably for years because changes roll back the moment they restart their laptops. I hope the company will look at these detrimental aspects of user experience and prioritize them to make their services more worthwhile to use across the board.
