How to use a fake email address to protect your privacy
If you are an Apple user, you can access a built-in tool that will help you with email aliases on participating apps and services.
When you sign up with a compatible app or website, you’ll see a “Connect with Apple” button. Tap on it and you can use your iCloud account to sign in instead of creating a brand new username and password.
You will see a pop-up window which will guide you through the process. If you want, you can share your real email address with the service, but the best solution is to use a feature called “Hide my email”.
Do so, and Apple will generate a unique, random email address and share it with the service you sign up for. Businesses will still be able to reach you – any emails they send you will go to your regular inbox – but they won’t know your real address.
Sign In With Apple is a great privacy add-on to keep your identity hidden from apps and a variety of websites.
You don’t have to keep track of fake emails: Apple logs this information for you when you’re on the sign-in screen. You can edit the emails you’ve shared and even turn off email forwarding so you don’t receive spam using the settings on your iPhone or iPad, or on iCloud.com.
Apple says it won’t read the content of emails companies send you, other than automatic spam filtering.
