OODA Loop – Renowned encryption experts sound the alarm on Client Side Scan (CSS)
Public safety and law enforcement officials continue to explore a viable technological solution to their need to legally access information on smartphones. The solution currently under consideration, Client-Side Scanning or CSS, stems from an August 2021 proposal from Apple, Inc.
A group of technologists, who for the past 25 years have come together to co-write seminal articles warning of encryption threats, issued another warning, this time regarding CSS. The document, titled Bugs in our Pockets: The Risks of Client-Side Scanning, is accompanied by recommendations for lawmakers and policymakers.
This article provides information on CSS leading to actionable recommendations for business and government decision makers.
